Diagnoses of Eye Disease

Eye diseases can be diagnosed using a variety of tests, including:

  • Amsler grid test: Tests central vision clarity
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT): Captures detailed images of the retina
  • Fundus autofluorescence (FAF): Determines the stage of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration
  • Fluorescein angiography: Uses a dye to make blood vessels in the retina visible under special light
  • Indocyanine green angiography: Uses a dye that lights up when exposed to infrared light
  • Ultrasonography: Uses sound waves to create a two-dimensional image of the inside of the eye
  • Ophthalmoscopy: Also called funduscopy
  • Slit-lamp examination
  • Tonometry
  • Disclosing agents: Fluorescent substances that help diagnose and treat certain eye conditions
